Verizon Wireless owns the America’s most reliable wireless network, serving nearly 55 million cell phone customers. Verizon Wireless operates the second-largest wireless telecommunications network in America, based on total cell phone customers. And Verizon Wireless still continues to increase its market share of the postpaid retail market segment. Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Vodafone Group (NYSE and LSE: VOD) and Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ), with 45 and 55 percent ownership respectively. Verizon plans to make way for the quadruple play with Verizon Wireless by adding the wireless service to Internet broadband, landline phone service and TV service.Verizon Wireless is headquartered in Basking Ridge, NJ and Verizon Wireless has a diverse workforce of more than 58,000 and generates annual consolidated operating revenues of approximately $32 billion.

Verizon Wireless delivered America’s first wireless consumer 3G multimedia services and Verizon Wireless has also launched one of the most comprehensive mobile music services in the world. And with their service ?Get It Now?, a proprietary interface, you can download ringtones for Verizon Wireless, java games, mobile applications, e-mails, directions, wireless internet, etc., and use instant messaging on your cell phone. With just a few taps on your cell phone keypad, you can associate different free Verizon Wireless ringtones for different phonebook entries, download some cool wallpapers and ringback tones, snap and send photos, check local movie times now and a lot more. You need to use a Verizon Wireless Get It Now-enabled cell phone like the brand new Motorola K1m cell phone to use all these mobile value added services.

The number of Verizon Wireless ringtones wallpapers you can store on your cell phone varies by model (LG ringtones Verizon Wireless, Verizon Treo ringtones, Verizon Motorola ringtones,…). The current most popular ringtone downloads are:

London Bridge - Fergie

Money Maker - Ludacris

Sexy Love - Ne-Yo

Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake

Ring the Alarm - Beyonce

Selected Service Plans and Pricing

Verizon has plans for individuals, and families. These plan categories include: America’s Choice, America’s Choice w/Push-to-Talk, PDA/Smartphone Voice & Data Choice Bundle, and BlackBerry Voice & Data Choice Bundle.

One very interesting service is Pay As You Go. With this plan you can purchase a phone, with either Verizon’s INpulse or EasyPay plans, and not have to worry about any contracts or long-term commitments. With INpulse, you pay as you go with unlimited night minutes. With EasyPay, you pay monthly, but are free of a long-term contract. Both plans allow you unlimited IN calling.

Verizon’s internal network is called the IN Network. If someone you know is within Verizon’s IN Network, you are free to talk to that person without using up your minutes. Users on your family plan are already IN, so you won’t have to worry about using your minutes when calling up your family.

Verizon’s individual ?America’s Choice? plans offer several options to new phone shoppers. Plans start from $39.99/mo. for 450 airtime minutes all the way to $199.99 for 6000 airtime minutes. Overtime minutes range from $.45 to $.20/min depending on your plan. Long distance is unlimited and there are no roaming charges depending on your area. You can also select optional services such as roadside assistance. ?America’s Choice? Family Share plans range from $69.99/mo. for 700 minutes to $299.99/mo. for 6000 minutes. For every family plan, you can add additional lines for $9.99/mo. Be aware that there is a minimum term for all standard plans, with $35 activation fees per line for individual plans and a $175 early termination fee per line as well.

In light of the billions of dollars spent on its network, Verizon’s cellular coverage in the greater metro area of San Francisco is quite good. We did our own testing throughout the Bay Area and found that more often than not, reception was excellent with good clarity on our BlackBerry 7250, which we got online for $99.99. User opinion of the Verizon network seems to mirror our own findings.

Elijah Menashe - San Francisco, CA

I have been looking for a good cellular service in the SF area for some time now, jumping across service providers three times the past 10 years. When I finally tried out Verizon, I thought their service paled in comparison to their claims of having the ?Best Network in America.? However, with the improvements that Verizon has claimed they have made this year, the service has improved a lot– I get four bars in my apartment in the Sunset dist. rather than two or one a few months ago. Now that their service has improved, I have to say that Verizon looks like a service I will stay with for a good amount of time.

Thong Le - San Mateo, CA

Verizon is pretty good considering all the horrible things I’ve heard about their network. For me, the choice really came down to my needs and what I could afford, so I went with Verizon and have been pretty happy with it. I get maybe an average of three to four bars, so I don’t really need to worry about losing a call. I think that people who say Verizon’s service is unreliable should probably upgrade their phones beyond the free ones, as those I’ve heard have worse reception. Otherwise, as long as you stick with a reasonably priced phone, you should be okay in terms of good service.
